Kayla Stanko – Artist

Kayla Stanko is an amazing artist who has a collection of great work. Her use of combining colors, patterns, and shapes is extraordinary. The colors pop out in your face and are extremely vibrant. There is a deeper meaning to Kayla’s work as she uses her art to create a welcoming environment for people who suffer from eating disorders.

She takes the stories of suffering and pain that these people have to live with and use applies that to her art. Kayla is the voice for these people and doing something special to help raise awareness for a disease that is looked down on in society.

These are real people with real goals and aspirations that have their demons. Her use of texture and light aligned with patterns bring a calming and caring sense to those who suffer. In reality her work brings this comfort to anybody who is suffering from any type of disease. Check out more of Kayla’s awesome work on her website and follow her on Instagram for more art.

“My most recent series, "#EDfamily," takes an intimate focus on living with an eating disorder. I reached out to the eating disorder community of Instagram to voice their stories: ranging from full recovery, to relapse, and everywhere in-between. These quotes written in handmade journals are accompanied by colorful mandala drawings (circular patterns, often created by Buddhist monks as a form of meditation) and mirror sculptures. I use mandalas to represent the complexities of an eating disorder and the common "perfectionist" mindset often felt by someone suffering, as well as a personal coping mechanism and therapeutic strategy for myself. I hope this ongoing project brings comfort to those suffering from an eating disorder, understanding to those who know someone suffering, and insight to those unfamiliar with eating disorders” - Kayla Stanko 2017
